New Funding, New Website, New Research

It's been an exciting week for us. We raised new funding by Google Ventures, launched a new website and Neil and team have published new research on the widgetization of the web.

Malware is one of the fastest growing threats on the Internet today. We are thrilled that the additional funding by Google Ventures will help support our mission and commitment to keep the Internet safe and malware-free for users and online businesses. Our new website went live on Friday and we have already received a lot of positive feedback. For those of you used to the Dasient 'blue,' you will notice that we have gone for a much bolder color scheme and design. We revamped our website to improve the navigation and provide additional resources for our visitors. Also, we wanted to let our customers and other industry experts do the talking, so you'll find a couple of videos featuring Dasient customer Jim Shugarts from MediaNewsGroup interactive and Gary McGraw, a well-known subject matter expert and best-selling author of 7 software security books. In parallel, we have also been working on some new research which Neil presented at Black Hat DC in January. The findings are summarized in a paper called 'The Widgetization of The Web' which talks about how the Web 2.0 transformation has involved many sites using third-party widgets. Click on the link to download the white paper but the gist of it is that the compromise of just a few popular widgets can be used to turn the most trafficked web sites on the Internet into distribution vehicles for malware. The paper also presents some case studies about how real analytics, audience measurement and advertising widgets have been used to infect high-profile websites with malware.
